I've just aquired a bike and the forks seem well and truely knackered. There is oil on the stanchions and I've noticed there is play bwteen the stantions and the lower leg. I'm not worried about travel/performance as its only gona be used infrequently on short trips, but are they likely to snap?? I could do without chewin concrete!

maybe. from what you say they do not seem to have been looked after.
you also do not give any info on them. Make, model, age etc..
Pics would be good to get an idea."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

There Sontour XCR on a Giant Yukon 07, there is a lot of oil on the stanchions, so I'm assuming the seals have gone, but its the play that worries me, are they likely to snap or are for legs fairly robust??0

i am only a lurner but have serviced 2 sets or rst's now and the tubes in them you would have to give a lot of stick to get them to snap
might be worth looking on the web to find a servicing kit and a how to guide. thats what i did and the both set feel good and when i got them they didn't move at all
the rst ones i have done are cheap ones tho so might be miles off your ones :?0 -
same thing happened to the forks on my 07 yukon. I needed up replacing them because they aren't really worth servicing. This is of course assuming you have the budget to buy new (TBH i wanted an excuse to upgrade it at the time anyway)Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)
