fitting a pair of Rockshox Revelation 426 DualAir Black MC to my zen 3 fitted with fsa orbit headset and would like to know how much lower than the stem face you would leave the steerer? would you also fit some spacers to allow for fine tuning of height?

The top of the steerer should sit about 3mm below the top of the stem. The spacers thing is a personal choice. do you want high bars or low bars, best option is to fit everything uncut (this may mean buying more spacers) and play about with the stem height until you find whats best for you and your riding style, once your happy, have it cut to length to tidy things up. Nothing worse than cutting your steerer only to find you cut too much off.

remember too that your bolt will have to reach and reach past the star fangled nut, so dont push it down too far if you decide on a high stack.

I like to put spacers over the stem, instead of cutting, until I've done some miles and I'm totally convinced that it's all the right height... Within reason obviously, you don't want 6 inches of spacer sticking up in front of you.

you cut it to the correct size that you have decided that you want.

so with the headset you want correctly fitted. (including the crown race fitted to the fork) then with the number of spacers you want under the stem you will be using. and then you may decide to have one or two spacers above the stem to allow for some fine tuning.
then you cut the steerer about 5mm below that length (but make sure that the cut is above the top stem bolt.
