When i get in i clean my bike get a shower an just wanna eat everything in the fridge so surly am not eatin rite

Any advice or just let me know what you guys eat to give me some idea

It depends what time of the day i ride. Normaly some weetabix and poached eggs on toast.

toast and coffee, maybe a banana. I can ride about 30 miles on that before I need to eat again. always have plenty of water though, or lucozade isotonic. thats well tasty.
  • I use the Boots isotonic powder. It's tasty and lasts for ages at £8 a tub.

As for food, well some toast and/or cerial in the house and then a sneaky wee Snickers just before I set off. That'll get me round the red route at Glentress no bother.

big bowls of pasta sort nearly anything
  • Big bowl of pasta before a ride, big bowl of chicken afterwards.

It may just be me, but I seem to have made a useful discovery...

Did you ever like those 'foam' chewy candy banana sweets as a kid? Well, I still like them and I find that eating a few of these before a ride is like rocket fuel for me!! Fara better than Lucosade or anything else sweet. May sound daft, but I swear by my foam bananas for that big kick energy boost that seems to also be quite long lasting too! Especially efective with a drink of water.

Milk bottles (sweets) on the other hand, seem to have me nosediving into the nearest little tiled room with the stick man sign on the door....

I try to always have a pasta meal the night before a ride if I can and then on the morning of a ride I will have a bowl of porridge with honey (instead of sugar) and chop up a banana in it. That would normally get me round a 3 hour high energy ride without a problem. Beyond that I start nibbling, normally nutrigain because I can't stand enery bars and gels.

Hmmm, well I a useless shopper, and don’t really eat breakfast at home (I eat in the car or office on week days) so I tend to eat whatever crap is for sale in buggens or Texaco, so usually a scotch egg, Turkish delight, bottle of diet coke (I have a serious addiction to the stuff) and neck a relentless in the van on the way to wherever we're riding. I tell myself I need to get into the habit of eating a proper brekkie, but I don't do tea or coffee so there's never milk in the house for cereal and I rarely have bread in for toast.

I used to eat Ginster pasties which is just wrong at 7am and they'd repeat on me all ride.

I do really have to change, if nothing else to save some cash, convenience shops are a cruel mistress.

porridge is good as its slow releasing and you don't get hungry for a while.the reason to ideally wait a couple of hours is you body concentrates blood to the stomach to help it digest which makes you slightly more lethargic,if your not competeing does this really matter that much,if doing a local loop from your door i wouldn't wait 2 hours after eating and if your travelling somewhere you will be waiting whilst travelling so don't worry about it too much

and trying to eat everything in the fridge is natural as your body is craving salts etc, just try to be sensible unlike me as i eat biscuits, crisps and cake when i get back

Goo Advice this is you got caffine to keep your energy up along with a banana and you can never have enough water.

I eat right before i set off, then i nibble as i ride- no problems. and always make sure i have water maybe make up my own energy drink water, salt a bit of sugar and flavour does the trick

  • i have a huge bowel of Brandflakes
    Go for a poo then?
(can't believe no other forum pedants had spotted this one ;) )

I never eat before a ride; couple of ristrettos then eating/drinking on bike if a long ride.

Eggs, scrambled on toast or turned to an ommlette. Eggs provide a good basis for a days ride, specially if you carbo load pasta the night before.
  • Porridge and honey for me too if it's a long ride and maybe a banana. I always take a Snickers with me and try to eat it about half way round. I always have a camelbak full of isotonic drink too!

    Porridge with syrup for me.
  • Bisk - cheap version of wheatabix.
  • As a lot of riders here, I usually have a bowl of cereal (nothing fancy, Cornflakes or something) and two slices of toast (but I have peanut butter on mine) with a coffee/glass of milk.

During ride I take two snickers bars and a bottle of orange juice (just cordial)

Does the trick for me (or did as I havent ridden in months)

And I eat about half an hour before I go out......

Bowl of muesli for breakfast, then a banana just before heading out the door. For an MTB ride with travelling involved and a big gap since breakfast I often end up having to stuff whatever I can get down too. Generally I can go out almost straight away after eating, but my sausage/egg/bacon buttie was killing me round Llandegla at the weekend :(

You should leave it about 40 minutes before you ride. That gives the food you have eaten chance to get into your system.

    Foam candy bananas forever!!!!

Though I find Starburst (or as I know them, Opal Fruits!) work well for a sugar boost! And I rarely have a sweet tooth.

Porridge with honey, or Ready Brek is great for longer rides out, especially on cold days.
