Im planning on getting one after the great reviews everywhere but i was thinking how hardcore is it? It would be used mainly at 7 stanes red and black runs but i occasionaly get to somewhere like fort william or innerliethen. Would the bike be able to take a days thrashing on the DH runs?

Pitch is an established all-mountain bike but any bike can break - it depends on your ability and how hard you hit the downhills.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I had a chat with a staff from my LBS, and he have managed to ride down fort william several times on his pitch pro 2009. Also he has confirmed that the frame is not broken yet!!

In terms of Innerliethen, it should be fine. I have rode down there in my hardtail :-)
  • I have a 08 Pitch Pro and havent broken it yet, and I run out of talent quicker than enthusiasm.

Having a chat teh other day with one of the guys from tmy LBS and he syas that there are no more larges left at Fishers.

Ive rode fort william from the wallride down on my giant xtc hardtail easily so i guess i should be able to manage the rest ok on the pitch.
there are no more larges left at Fishers.
that is worrying because im 6'2" so that would have been the size i would have gone for

If they'll handle the Mega they'll handle Fort William.

Try the Specialized Concept Store in Chester as they should have them in.

If you're 6'2" get a Large, I'm 5'11" and have a Medium which is bang on

I'm a little worried by a 2009 bike supposedly sold out in January, more stock may be on the way?

Thinking about it, the bike didn't really change anything except paint job from '08 did it? Perhaps a mid-year refresh is on the cards (pure speculation)?

I'm still depressed at how cheap the Pitch Pro is in the UK compared with the US, I'd probably save $500+ by importing one, even after customs charges. Probably lose the warranty though. I wonder if any of the mail order companies would be willing to ship one, and if they'd chop off the VAT like they probably should. :D

And to answer my own question. Evans removes the VAT and will ship a bike to USA for £40.

They didn't even change the paint job for 09 ones here - they are still brown, just 08 ones basically. I reckon they will get some in the new colours some time later this year, probably more expensive.

The only other colour i can find is a horrible green and white one

Urghh that is hideous - think there is a black and white one as well but maybe that's the comp.

    Almost certainly more expensive

Looking at it more closely there seems to be some small spec differences (perhaps just the comp) between US and UK models. I think you're right that new colours and ever so slightly revised spec will turn up a few months down the line.

(and off-topic, Evans won't ship Specialized bikes outside the UK, damn their eyes)
  • Having a bit of a look about n the Specialized site i have seen some 09 specs for the pitch pro where it comes with lock on grips and Juicy 4rsl brakes. The only benefit of te 4 rsl is the tool free reach adjust.
Uk 09 spec is exactly the same as 08 as far as i can tell.
