I have a rockhoper pro disc 07, an have upgraded it a fair amount and spent some ££ on it , i am getting a full service / strip and rebuild done this weekend and would like honest and helpful opinions to finish it off or if there is something you dont like let me know... there are a couple of obvious things not yet done 1: the xt shifters but they are ordered already, and the crankset is still standard deore but i dont know which to upgrade to XTR is too expensive, however this is only one aspect of the bike and i would like opinions on all of it i have a spec sheet so far and will follow this with some current pics as well as the one i have of its original look

Maybe look at the XT or SLX chainsets if the XTRs are too expensive.........Thats if your current Deore chainset is on its way out0
-
Can't think of many things that will make less difference than upgrading your shifters (unless you'd be going for dual control of course).0
-
i was considering the xt chainset actually but at £110 it is abit pricey this month lol...
Any other brands spring to mind guys? and shifters are going to be 2009 XT ones not dual control i havent been swung to appreciating them yetG.H.Allum0 -
It is a very good spec: is anything letting you down? Shifters would be worthwhile as the SLX/XT/XTR have less lever throw and are a smoother, lighter and longer lasting.
Apart from that, I'd try not to think about it too much and enjoy the bike. Nothing wrong with it at all.0 -
why do you want to upgrade these parts? as afar as I can tell from your post they all seem to be working properly and are all perfectly good parts, or do you feel inadequate riding anything that doesnt say XT or XTR or have a 'big name' logo stamped on it?0

take the reflectors off the wheels, lose the tool bag and slx cranks to match black with black
seriously though thats all i would do, unless you really need to spend some money on cranks i would just keep them for now.
sweet ride in all honesty"My life is like a porno-movie, without the sex".0 -
Maybe save up a bit and get an XT chainset if thats what you want. Other than that you might as well just change parts as they wear out.
It should be running "sweet as" after a good service0 -
The rear mech is an XT, not XTR
The XT shifters do make a big difference, and the SLX crankset is supposed to be very good and twice as stiff as XT apparently! Aside from a Shadow rear mech, like others have said i wouldn't bother changing anything till it brakes. It sounds like you just want to buy stuff for the sake of it, but it is a massive waste of money throwing out perfectly usable components when you don't need to, and i am talking from experience, it's shocking the money i've waisted and i have a drawer full of spare bits that could have lasted another couple of thousand miles! Just enjoy riding the bloomin thing, it's a nice bike!
P.S. Agreed on the reflectors, take them off NOW0 -

there is only one thing i was thinking of changing and tht was to loose the cane creek bar end and change the Ritchey straight bars for the longer riser bars .

Does your current ride position cause you discomfort? If so, I would consider the change. Many people work long and hard to find that 'magic' angle/reach/length and stick with it. I've tried riser bars and I just can't get along with them. I do however believe that a slightly wider bar can help improve control/stability.
Basically I would advice you to try those components first (if possible) before you commit.0 -
no the comfort is fine but i have heard that to let your chest expand properly you need wider bars not the narrow ones i think i read this in WMB issue 70 in 2007 My bike did obviously start out with risers but they were only a few cm wider and i changed them at the time for a diff look and to fit the c/c bar ends. As i do follow the rule about risers= no bar ends lol lol...
But i will try them first deff i have a very nice bloke who runs a speciallized shop in Amersham he will prob let me test ride with them as well which may not be a bad idea?
Thanks for that mate!G.H.Allum0 -
Btw guys you will be pleased to know i have removed the reflector i didnt even realise it was on there , odd though? These are the DT rims i bought and only the front had a reflector on .....hmm?? Oh well done now unfortunatly i have to keep hold of the bag for know as it has my tools in itG.H.Allum0
