Can't buy a cheap old bike these days.

Hi All,

I've been looking for a nice old race bike to ride around the streets of London, something that will be quick but looks knackered so kids won't nick it if I lock it ouside a shop for more than 5 mins.

And it seems the latest single gear fad has totally distorted the price of these things on eBay.

I have been watching a couple of old rally bikes which can't have been more than £50-100 in their day and they're going for over £100 and they don't even work. Madness.

If I am going to spend that much money, I might as well get something nice.

My worry is though, that even though its not exactly expensive, it looks bling and will be lifted the minutes its left alone.

Can anyone suggest where to pick up an old bike for £50 or so?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

nick

Nick, it's generally considered that the bike you linked to is an absolute pile of turd! Also the blurb is the kind of ridiculous hyperbole you only get with spam...

Stuff eBay, try gumtree or even Freecycle! Usually lots of people trying to get rid of old bikes on there, often in a fairly serviceable condition :)

Buy an old frame and build an SS or fixie......! Cheap as chips!

I have a spare 58cm steel frame and forks, yours if £0 + postage if you want them.

Not massively light but would make a good hack / pub bike.
