punishing training rides in france

We're training for the transalp in july and were planning on culminating the training with a week of hard riding in ther alsp somewhere (france if possible) and was just wondering if anybody knows of any good places to ride? looking for some long, hard climbing but some sweet speedy singletrack would be a bit of a boon too. Suggestions??
