London Taxis

Hi everyone.
This may sound like a stupid question but here goes anyway. I am travelling down to London next Sunday evening. I am working in the capital for the week and am planning on bringing my bike with me. I wont arrive into Kings Cross until late and dont fancy the cycle to Paddington with all of my luggage etc.

What I want to know is, will a black cab allow me to put my bike in the back with me. It would be easier to know now than wait in a taxi queue only to be told to sod off.

Regards

Yes, done it myself from Paddington to Finsbury Park, they'll charge it as extra luggage. The only problem I had was the cabbie getting irked when the bashguard thingy I was usning at the time hit the step trim as I got out of the cab. I took the precaution of asking when I was in London previous to the trip and the cabbie I spoke to said most cabbies would. If one doesn't the next will.

I think cabbies are feeling the pinch at the mo , perhaps more than most , so would be less likely to turn away custom than ever before.

A mate of mine is a cabbie and yes they are feeling the pinch at the moment and yes they will let you put your bike in the cab. Try and make sure it's not covered in mud though!
  • A cab is my puncture repair kit sometimes. Done it a few times, give them a tip though

what, tell them to stop being a bunch of miserable w*nkers

TBH they do sound like a great alternative if you can't make it back due to mechanical/human failure

Do any accept Credit Card as payment these days?

Should be able to these days, when I was in Australia 10 years ago the cabs were emblazoned with Visa logos and credit card payments advertised on the sides. Guess it would involve the driver radioing back to base with the details, perhaps not the best thing to do with some of the operations about.
