There are two types of Aliante (at least?). I have one of the "ordinary" ones as fitted to a lot of Bainchi's. The actual shape looks very similar. I guess the extra cost is in the carbon rails and shell.

I found it very comfortable from day one - however, the new bike probably also contributed to that as well. It is certainly as good, if not better, than the Spesh Avatar that is on my other bike. And that is also a highly regarded saddle.

Oh and I feel like I've been raped by an Orangutan  And I've got legs like Girders

I have 4 road bikes and the Aliante sits on top of each of the seatposts! Got my first one about 4 years ago and I just love them. Tried an Arionne, it was ok but I still much prefer the Aliante. There are a few different models kicking around, main difference being the rail material and therefore the weight and price!

I have two Aliantes, one is the carbon with metal rails, the other is all carbon. Love them!

I've had one for 8 years - one of the first batch that came into the UK and sadly the lorica cover has work through on the sides, so that is probably in excess of 50,000km. Great comfort for something so light. I only paid trade for it when they retailed for £100 for the ti-railed model - somehow spending £150 on a replacement is hard to justify - I run Ariones on most of my bikes these days, plus an original Flite.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I have one going cheap - you just need to weld the carbon rails back together

Bought Aliante last year, could not get on with it at all - changed it for Selle Itaila prolink, good move its a great saddle
  • Whether it works for you depends on your *rse so I wouldn't place much weight on opinions without sit bone measurements!!

That said, I really like the one I have on one of my bikes and like most Fizik saddles it's really well made. Unlike the Toupe, for example which works reasonably well but IME wears out and looks shabby in no time.

As James said, you really need to try a saddle first. I really wanted an Arione 'cos I love their looks but unfortunately it didn't sit well with me (heh heh...) yet some people swear by them.
