I'm trying to find a second hand set of wheels after wrecking my front after a bad encounter with a rather large pot hole the other night. The bike they're for is a '08 trek 1.5 which has a 9 speed cassette, some of the wheels I've been looking at have 7,8,9, or 10 speed cassettes. Are they all interchangable or do i need to find a a set of wheels with a 9 speed cassette?

As long as the wheels have a Shimano freehub, your cassette will fit on any of the 8/9/10 speed ones, assuming you stay away from the 10 speed only Shimano wheels.
  • ok thanks, just one more question what about wheel spacing? are they all spaced the same or do i need to look for a certain size.
    cheers

As long as they are modern wheels - which you'll need for your 9 speed cassette - then they are all the same size - mtb wheels are wider but they'll probably have the wrong rim on them anyway.
I'm left handed, if that matters.
