stupid question but how can i fit a bar bag to my handlebars when i'm using shimano STI shifters? obviously if i had campag this wouldn't be an issue but seeing as i haven't actually buitl the bike yet i could change, but i would be interested to see how it is done, i would be using a topeak tour guide bar bag
thanks

Carbon fibre, it's all nonsense. Drink beer. Ride a steel bike. Don't be a ponce.

I had a bar bag on my Specialized with 105 STIs but for the life of me can't remember how I managed it. I did have a Carradice Super C barbag which has two mounting positions for the bar clamp, this wasn't the clickfix mount.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Not sure I understand the problem. I have STI's and a bar bag (Ortlieb) and there seems to be room for everything to coexist happily.0

the problem is, as i see it from my other bike is that the cables that come out the sides of shimano STI's interfere with the bar bag as they stick outCarbon fibre, it's all nonsense. Drink beer. Ride a steel bike. Don't be a ponce.0

I have shimano STi's and an Ortlieb bar bag.
It is a snug fit, but the cables run down the front of the bag with no problems at all.

Hi,
I took my R700 over the Pyrennees with an Ortlieb bar-bag... no problems that I recall...
See...

I think this is how my cables ran, out of the levers along the front of the bag and under th bag to the downtube. I did run the outers slightly long so this helped, short outers might not work.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Yeah, I think I put the bag on before I ran cables.
But it does def. fit.

I too have STIs and an Ortlieb bag. In fact I have two Ortlieb bags, the larger one is a snug fit, the smaller fits no problem at all. When I replaced the two gear cables I made longer cable outers to give a bit more room, but in all honesty I would get the smaller Ortlieb bag. I only put wallet, camera and the like in the bag so I don't need much room anyway.
I forget the model of bag, but the larger is yellow, the smaller orange.0 -
thanks for the help guys, ill get the barbag when i build the bike then route the gear cables round it so this way it will fit nicely, i just couldn't see how i could get one to fit as the cables on my other bike are quite short and no way could i get a bar bag in there!Carbon fibre, it's all nonsense. This is a problem and, if the bars are a bit narrow then it can be impossible and moreso when the gear cable adjusters are positioned on the hoods. If you try to force the bag into too narrow a space between the gear cable , the cables will eventually break at the bend.
One solution is shown here.

This thread gives all the important information you need to do the job including the use of a V brake noodle to position the outgoing cables downwards out of the way of the bag.0
