had a crash and bent my derailleur hanger. replaced that, but now whenever i put alot of pressure on my peddles, the gears jump. they dont jump to another gear, the just have like a hick-up. looked at my derailleur and the top jockey and bottom jockey is not inline with the top gear. the bottom jockey is slightly out of line.

do i need to replace the derailleur, or is it not supposed to be inline? the derailleur is a sram sx5. thanx.

  • it looks slightly twisted. put it this way, the cage does not sit parallel with the spokes. so i guess it is twisted

There's your problem then, you can try and twist it back into shape...or buy a new mech.

It happened to me a while back, I twisted mine back into shape. The gears skipped for the first dozen rides, but with tweaking after every ride you got a smooth running mech again.

I would buy a whole new mech if I were you

well if it was parralle to the spokes it would be bent.

If you are not sure what is really wrong get it checked out by your LBS as it may just need setting up correctly again.
