Best XC hubs available

Im looking at upgrading my bike soon. Im having a custom build. Whats the best hub, spoke, rim combo?

Hubs: Hope Pro II or Shimano XTR

Spokes: DT Swiss spokes (double butted are lighter & just as strong as plain gauge)

Rims: Mavic rims XC 717, or 8 series if you want to run tubeless

I have Chris King hubs on my current bike. I was thinking more bling then XTR. Ive heard theyre not really that good. Hope is a possibility.

andy b gave you the standard response, if you've got a big budget try a set of wheels from poshbikes the disc lights are very good. Or get some custom built:

some nice hubs, like the industry nine ones from justridingalong.co.uk sapim cx-ray spokes (which are awesome but very expensive) and one of the stans rims for the same webbie, these will be light and can be run tubeless

I dont really want to pay more then £600. I might be able to stretch to £650 if they are something special.

For an XC build, Sapim CXRay are a great spoke.

In a thread not so long ago you said the chris kings were the best hubs you've ever ridden, if theres no problem with them i'll buy your old wheelset off ya.

I'd go DT swiss ceramic 190 + Sapim spokes with a Stan's rim (which one depending on your weight and what riding you're doing)

dt swiss hub (240s) and rim(xr 4.2d),. built quite a few of these and know they are really good quality and are pretty tough. Also the hub is really easy to service as it comes apart quite easily.

Specialized roval controle xc sl....super pimp...or the controle xc race versions for approx £360.

I am having some wheels built for XC racing plus 18st on top of them. After several discussion with both "normal" cyclists and a world BMX pro who also doesXC I have been recommended:

Mavic 719 disc, XTR hubs and Sapim DB spokes.

Picking them up today!
