Hi all I am in the process of choosing a bike and as I am new to Mountain biking I am finding it hard to make a decision. The budget at the moment is around the £300 mark. I have looked at two bikes so far a Trek 4300 D worth £300 and a Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc for £330. Out of these two which is the better buy or is there a better option at this price range. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Check out the stickies at the top of the forum.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Have to be mad to buy a hardrock at that price when it'd buy you an 08 rockhopper tbh, even if it is the v-brake hopper. Everything else is better.

Scott Aspect 45 2008 for £350 and in some places under £350.
Or the Scott Aspect 55 2008 for £300.

    Both nice bikes.

I second that. If you like the Hardrock for size and fit, get the Rockhopper V-Brake for around £350. It's a far better bike, much better frame to base upgrades on but retains the same geometry as the Hardrock.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.
