Milan-San Remo sportive

Hello

Does anyone have any good links on this please? I'm particularly keen to know whether the organisers arrange transfer back to Milan or whether this has to be done privately or through agencies. The Italian website is very enthusiastic but the English FAQs are pretty unreadable. I know it's on June 7th but the rest is impenetrable to a non-Italian speaker.

Any pointers to a good English guide or advice welcome.

Regards

Alan

  • I'm not aware of that event, it might be organised by a local cycling club.

There is the one organised by Gazzetta, the same that organises the real race and it's the day before the race I think

However, it has little to do with the real event, it is infact a granfondo on a circular route inspired by the Milan-Sanremo. Let's say that you'll end up doing the best bits, avoiding the long boring miles between Milan and Liguria.

I rode the event in 2006 - you can read about it here:

Not aware of transport back to Milan, as we were with Sporting Tours and flew out of Nice the following day.

Fantastic ride, especially if you are not so keen on loads of mountains that seem to be the mainstay of most continental sportifs. Closest I think I'll ever come to riding with the pros! Be aware that our average speed for the first (flat) 3 hours was around 25mph travelling in a bunch of 700 riders - some road racing as training in the lead up to it would not go amiss.

Many thanks for your report. I will look at Sports Tours because DIY transport may be quite difficult.

Didn't get this cancelled last year? As far as I'm aware it's one way and up to you to get you and your kit back from san Remo. That's either train to Nice and fly or train back to Genoa or Milan. Someone I know did this in 2004 and as the comment above said, it was going fast for the first few hours, then splintered into groups that you could work with. he loved it (+ he'd used fake tan on his legs as he didn't want the Italians to mock his white legs). He went with Baxters and I thought it was the whole route but at 294km for the real thing maybe it doesn't

Yes - it is the full route of the pro race apart from starting a little outside Milan and finishing on the top of the Poggio rather than in Sanremo itself.

This is the official website (complete with comedy translation errors):
