"It stays down, Daddy."
"Exactly."

I did the stabbing (and I'm flattered at the age estimate!)0

I ride through Tooting (highstreet) everyday, not a very nice place (not the worst) if you ask me. Very worrying indeed.Food Chain number = 4
A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -
I cycle through Tooting regularly. There are some very obnoxious yoof in that area, often with those cars that run on loud music.
They are obsessed with "respect", whatever that means.___________________________________________

I cycle past that area twice daily too and while I agree it's not the nicest bit of England I'm still surprised by this.
On a bike, it's not that difficult to get away from someone quickly if you see a car pull over and the door opens. You could be long gone (in any number of directions) in five seconds flat so I suspect the cyclist may have wanted to argue the toss with the guy, perhaps.0 -
I used to live in Balham and a couple of years ago people (or estate agents) were talking of Tooting as the new Balham. Seems like it has a bit of a way to go.0

About 8 or so years ago, Tooting was alright to go out. I used to frequent the Tramshed with my friends as Balham, Clapham and Wandsworth had got a little boring.
I was a teenager then though so... meh.
I agree with the post above, it does sound like the guy wanted to argue with the person and got stabbed for his troubles - still no excuse and I hope they catch them.Food Chain number = 4

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to excuse the stabbing, just so that's clear. Just saying that it seemed to me like there must have been at least a couple of words spoken before the knife came into play.0

Yeah, there are a lot of places I was happy to go as a teenager that I wouldn't go near now!
Having said that, the only time I was mugged was in Wimbledon, and one of the two times I've been assaulted was in Wimbledon Village, of all places. Be careful DDD.0 -
Tooting is alright - the knife merchants could have come from anywhere.
The only time I got mugged was In Kew!? Richmond town centre can be well rough too.0 -
Never been mugged and am very thankful of that fact. I have had my gold chain snatched from my neck. Got it back though......... However, these days I'd probably have let him walk away with it (take that comment in all seriousness).
When I was at college the bus home (becaue the journey was so long - Croydon to Coulsdon) was notorious for problems, fights, muggings and stabbings. One guy I knew, nice guy, got stabbed several times in the leg and was screaming "save the trainers" They were the new £110 Nike air max.....
Another guy just looked at these trouble makers and for his trouble's got punched in the chest and threatened with a knife...
I was glad to leave that World behind me.biondino wrote:Yeah, there are a lot of places I was happy to go as a teenager that I wouldn't go near now!

Being mugged is absolutely horrible! To physically threaten someone into giving (or simply taking) something they worked for, for nothing but jealousy is disgusting.
I wouldn't have expected that sort of thing happening in Wimbledon or an assault in Wimbledon Village.... But then that reminds me, someone mugging in Croydon or Thorton Heath is likely to be mugging someone with the same mentality or worse. Go to a safer more affluent area and everyone is a target.... And also arguably carrying more expensive items.
I will be more cautious now!Food Chain number = 4

My mugger got 6 months in Feltham young offenders for his troubles...the police put a hell of an effort into catching him.
Wimblendon can be rough at night, just like Kingston and Richmond0 -
I'm glad that they caught the little sh*t!Sewinman wrote:Wimblendon can be rough at night, just like Kingston and Richmond
I suppose this just comes down to perspective. I've been going out on and off around Wimbledon Broadway (Footlights/Terrace, Jim Beans, Edwards, Leaf and Slug - lol) for a fair few years now. In fact I live very near there. Never thought of it as rough, but then I was usually proper drunk at the end of the night.
I feel the same about Kingston, less so about Croydon - but when I was younger I wouldn't say it was rough.
Never been out in Richmond.
Area's in South London I consider rough:
Mitcham
Thorton Heath
Streatham
Norwood
Camberwell

Roughest place by far is Brixton....i don't think i have ever been there without some nutter approaching me etc. Hate the place. Camberwell Green is awful too.
Kingston is much rougher than Wimbledon - its a market town and gets hoardes of Garys descending on the place, particularly up by Oceana. Richmond is near the Ivy Bridge estate so it gets rough too. Biggest brawl I saw was in Wimbldeon - West Ham v Chelsea firms.. !0 -

I love Brixton, lived there for 12 years of my life. Love it love it love it. It's the heartland, so vibrant and full of character!Camberwell Green is awful too.
+1
I work in Camberwell... they relocated the office from Waterloo to Camberwell when I joined. I was pi$$ed off.Kingston is much rougher than Wimbledon - its a market town and gets hoardes of Garys descending on the place, particularly up by Oceana.
Some of the girls that frequent Oceana (not student) could put a brothel out of business... That's if they can find a cream for that itch....
Some of the guys that frequent that place (regularly and not on student night) were at the back of the evolutionary queue when braincells were being developed.Food Chain number = 4

You know I need a new job...
My commute takes me past
Camberwell Green and Loughborough Junction....
Another place I'm not fond of (though Total Newbie will kill me)
Stockwell. I hate the place.Food Chain number = 4

Ah Stockwell, I used to jog to work past Stockwell tube and there was always the smell of stale vomit in the air on a Monday morning.
Nice Portuguese restaurants between there and Vauxhall though.
I live down near Lewisham and on the surface it seems to be a more dodgy area than parts of SW London like Tooting but I think its safer.
Blackheath Village on a Saturday night is interesting, lots of folk from the Ferrier estate up for a drink and punch-up.0 -
What baffles me is why anyone would go out for a punch up...
I was always far more interesting in chatting up girls than getting punched in the face....
Maybe I'm weird, I dunno.Food Chain number = 4

Cos if you always stay in for a punch up, you get bored of the scenery and the opposition?
Haven't you got some law to do?
If I sued Chicken Cottage for making me fat would you defend me?
Surely as a lawyer, during an arguments you can go all 'lawyer mode' cross examine your wife and win?
