Got XTR setup, not the newest design but the one before.
The chain that was on there was stretched so ive just put a new sram 971 chain on and it seems to be rubbing on the rear of the middle chainring as you apply load to the pedals.
No load and it doesnt make a noise
anyone know if these arent compatible ?
Think i might need a proper shimano one?
i always thought they were compatible?

i wold have thought that they would be compatible but with xtr, maybe that the xtr chain is a tiny bit thinner or more machined on the side plates?Timmo.

As long as you use correct 8, 9 or 10 speed chain, they are all interchangeable and you can use whatever you like (SRAM, Shimano, KMC, Wipperman etc).
If the chain was pretty worn (say 1%) you may need new cassette and chainrings as they will have worn with your old chain and may not mesh properly with a new one.0 -
its has a farily new XTR cassette that isnt worn
the chain rings look ok too
its just the middle chain ring - seems to be rubbing on the back when some metal studs go through0
