Hi

I have an old Specialised Rockhopper FS (2001 I think).

Could I convert this to a fixie/singlespeed, and if so how?

Thanks

Greg

what are the dropouts? vertical, semi-horizontal, horizontal or track-fork-ends
  • take off all extraneous parts (the chainrings you won't need, cassette, shifters, mechs)
Get a set of short chainring bolts to fix your chosen ring to the cranks.
Either bash up an old cassette or buy a sprocket in your chosen size, pop it on the freehub with a spacer either side (again either buy or make ).
    Adjust chainlength.
    Ride.
Consider need for tensioning device. If needed - fit one. If not - don't.
    Ride more. Smile.

"Consider need for tensioning device. If needed - fit one. If not - don't."

That answers the single speed bit, but not the fixed! The latter depends on drop outs (or "magic" chain length or - lot more expensive - an Eno eccentric hub or an eccentric bottom bracket).

have a look in the MTB FAQ's there is a single speed topic there with all the info.
