a number of threads in the summer about how there seemed to be more cyclists on the road. doubts that it could persist once winter came but i actually think there has been no reduction and indeed i was surprised how many were out on the bitterly cold days we have had. surprised too as i think leeds does little in the way of road improvements to help cyclists and you would be pushed to find any flat ground on the north side. boy are there some tediouslong drags.

As an ex-Otley resident, +1 to that! Though before that I lived in Yeadon, and the ride home from Guiseley station on my bike/train commute via the back lanes was very pleasant in almost any weather.

Indeed, quite often I look out the front window on a saturday/sunday morning and see a group of nutters fly past on a club run! In the freezing cold!

I don't think the cold stops most of the roadies from going out...just the ice.

In the summer there are definately more people in general on bikes though.
  • actually the cyclists i've noticed are in the town and suburbs, the sort wearing ordinary type clothes. out on rides further afield ther seem to be the usual number of roadies which actually is very few this time of the year; it's really the casual cyclists that i have noticed and there seems alot of them

Here in Manchester It seems just as usual the amount of cyclists, same in york, although I was extremely surprised when I was back at home near York in the holidays, I did 40mile loop through York and up to Tadcaster and I seen about 30+ cyclists that day!!!, that was Christmas day too!!, must have been some big groups too...

I agree, I was actually surprised at the number of commuter cyclists in London through the very cold snap the other week. The number doesn't seem to have diminished much since summer
