I am looking to upgrade the rim brakes on my old hardtail and looking at getting either juicy 5 or Juicy 7s

I currently have 2007 Juicy 5s on my Stumpjumper and find they work really well and have the bleed kit etc so looking at staying with Avid.

Looking at the 2009 Juicy's the only noticable difference I can see between the 5s and 7s is the Pad Contact Adjustment dial, which make the 7s £35 more for a set.

Does anyone have experience of how well this works and is it worth the additional money?

Many Thanks!

Why do they need to be 2009?

I've run my 08' Juicy 7s faultlessly for 8 months and you must be able to pick an 08 set up for £100 now.

My 08 7's are used mostly for XC but the 160mm rotors stop me every time and I'm 13 stone.

I have 7's on my Stumpy and custom SX.
And 5's on my Rockhopper (HT).

Can't fault the 5's. If you don't need the bite-point adjustability of the 7's, stick with the 5's.

edit: The adjuster on the 7's are a bit of a pain. Once you have them adjusted, you never touch the adjuster again (except for bleeding) - which is probably why they removed the adjuster for the 'Ultimates'.

Therefore, I'd have to say, with regard to the HT, keep it simple. Keep it Juicy 5.
Stumpy, Rockhopper (stolen!) & custom SX Trail II - that should do it!

I have the 7's and 5's on diff bikes and I love the adjustment factor of the 7's. I would argue that once they are set you do still adjust them as over time they do seem to need tweaking. For me its totally a personal thing as both perform just as well as each other in my eyes.

If you like having ultimate adjustability run with the 7's if you want to set and forget run with the 5's.
