Guide Dogs "Le Tour Challenge 2009"

After a little deliberation I've bitten the bullet and signed on for the 2009 Le Tour Challenge in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Comprising stages 15, 16 and 17 of this year's Tour (but taking 6 days instead of the tour's 3!) the ride covers 536kms climbing 20 peaks, ending with Col de la Colombiere.
I'll pop a link to my Just Giving page in due course (all donations to this worthy charity will be gratefully received) but is anyone else registered/intending to register for this challenge ride?
See you on this hills!
Rik

Wastelander, I assume that this is the Le Tour Challenge you're doing (It's always a good idea to provide a link for us nosey folk. )It looks like a lot of fun. Good luck. I hope you have a great time and raise loads-a-money.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -

Hi Crapaud - cheers for popping the link on for (saved me a job too!) - that is indeed the event - looks like it promises to be a superb week of alpine riding. It's just a shame that there's no D'Huez as this year the ride is following the Tour stages. Still, it gives me a reason to go back another year eh?0 -

You're not getting away with that without an explanation. I, and I expect many others, will want to know what you mean by that.0 -
I assume he must have made some mistake (maybe thought he was commenting on the ride for Palastine) Surely no one could find offence at the Guide dogs for the blind.0
-
I thought he was pretty clear.
Guide Dogs for the Blind is a charity which provides guide dogs and other aids for the blind and partially sighted. In addition it funds research into the causes and treatment of eye disease, aided by a network of volunteer workers, of which my mother was one, and charity fundraisers like wastelander. Good luck to him.0 -
Just to clarify, I meant that I thougt Cycologist might perhaps have inadvertently thought he was commenting on the Ride for Palastine thread., then again, noticing his second post, maybe not.
I was initially giving him the benefit of the doubt, guessing that no one could object to such a worthy cause (and one I have regularly donated to, myself). But if he has objections to it, I too would be interested in knowing why.0 -

FWIW - yeah, I agree. It looked like he was approving of the ride, but not of the charity that would benefit from it.Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.0 -

Oh dear. Having just re-read my post on this thread i can only apologise for what seems to have been quite an aberration on my part. Some of my general views on (a) animal causes and (b) the charity industry, seem to have been wrongly addressed to a more worthy cause (in my subjective view) the focus of which is neither the much valued dogs nor the people whom they assist.
My sincere apologies to Wastelenader and anyone else I may have upset. It was not my intention to offend. Two wheels good, four wheels bad0 -
The thing that I don't like about these charity rides, is that the people who sponsor you / the charity are really just paying for your holiday / lifetime ambition.
whilst your intentions may be to raise money for a good cause, people should pay for the ride / adventure themselves and raise money for the charity seperately.climbs like a sprinter, sprints like a climber.0 -

I just looked at the GuideDogs website - you've got to arrange your own flight out there and there's a registration fee of £99. However, the conditions do state you have to explain to sponsors that £650 of funds raised will be used to pay for trip costs. I'm sure the OP will make that very clear on his JustGiving page when it goes up!
I'm very jealous - wish I could do it this year!Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
