Hi again guys,

If i was to get this bike

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... gn=froogle

How easy would it be for me to put hydraulic disks on it? Would i just need to put the disks on or will this bike not be able to spport discs and i'd have to buy a whole load of stuff?

many thanks :P

yes but will cost more than the bike.

new wheels and then the brakes and most likely the gear shifters.

the rear hub may have the shimano splined disc fitting but the front?

Converting to hydraulic would be simple on this bike, the hubs are centrelock disc compatable, so you're stuck with shimano rotors unless you buy adaptors / change the hubs.

A set like these what I had on my old bike would bolt straight on.

  • If you were looking to spend that kind of money you have loads of options that come with disc brakes. You could go for a 08 rockhopper comp, loads of deals around at the moment. as nicklous says you will be spending a fortune to get the scott with full hydro brakes.

Only £394 here though :P And as im currently going for the GT Avalanche 1.0 2008 (£399) i don't know which one to choose between the two....

    Pity about the scott :(

I've had an Avalanche and they are a hell of a lot of fun. A really good bike that is worthy of upgrades. I think there is a review on bikeradar here. The forks are alright, do a good job, the brakes are pretty effective but aren't repairable because it's all riveted together... I haven't ridden the Scott but the Avalanche has a big following on here... Make sure you get the disc version though and the Avalanche will do you damn fine.
  • I've just been through the whole 'What's the best bike I can get for under £500?" thing, I ended up with an 08 Scott Aspect 45, £349 from my LBS in the sales. It's available here for less (http://www.hargrovescycles.co.uk/produc ... rtno=31128), but I prefered to support my LBS and be able to go back for help if needed this being my first 'proper' bike for years :D

Good choice, the frames not bad and the components are all fairly reasonable. Good call on buying from your LBS too, should payback in the long run.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • Well guys in th end I've jsut ordered the GT Avalanche 1.0 2008 disc model for £399 :P
