    This morning I did the same route (from my door to bike shed) in 37mins.

    Its not a cosistent speed though, on top of the multiple traffic lights (designed to stop one after the other) and junctions at Tooting, Balham, Clapham Common and Brixton. There are cars, single lane traffic and people who step out in front of you onto the road in an attempt to cross.

    I could get it down to 35 maybe less, but I do need to MTFU.

    A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game

    I cycle 16.5 mile with 3 good climbs. I do it in 1h approx. depends on the weather. If it's windy it can take much longer.

    I cycle just under 25miles each way.

    Wolverhampton --> Brownhills --> Minworth(B76)

    It takes me between 1hr15 and 1hr30 depending on traffic and how i feel that day. It's also the hilliest commute I have done.

    Before that there was my 12mile commute Wolverhampton to Storubridge which average around 40mins but I managed once (and only once) to get it down to 30mins. This is whilst I was racing someone the whole route (still obeying traffic laws).

    Before this was a 18mile commute Wolverhampton to Stafford. This took me 50mins and was amazingly flat having a whole two hills to deal with (one at each end).

    16miles would take around an hour IMO. Depending of traffic and the roads.

    I know there are some long distance commuters knocking about out there. I'm planning on starting commuting by bike the 16.5 miles to work. Wondered what sort of time people would leave to complete it in?

    Lucky enough to have showers, secure parking etc.. Downside is I sometimes end up doing 12 hour shifts doing physical work and will end up riding home at 3 in the morning. Am I going to kill myself?
    I reckon try it, the worst that can happen is it will be too much, the best it will be awesome. I reckon it is do-able.

    I used to do a 12 miler, it would take about 40 mins or so. I was in the best shape ever in those days.
  • Did my 16.7 mile commute in the snow and ice this morning. Took me about an extra 10 minutes. It was a bit scary at times but i did ok, right until the last corner when the bike slid away from me and i landed on my ars*. Felt a right t**t. I did the normal man thing, got up really quick and made sure no one was looking at me.
