I`d go for Shimano SLX or Deore. You get plenty of change too!2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -
i use one of thesehttp://www.chainreactioncycles.com ... delID=6028 and they are good stuff but like spioderman says you get change form the SLX or deore just as good"we're a forum of pointless upgraders, depreciation maximisers, and diminishing returns addicts"0

SLX would be my recommendation, cheap strong reasonably light. Ideal trail cranks for your bike.0

ok guys thanks i have decided on the shimano slx crank ... thanks0
-
Recently got an SLX too - can't fault it.
Ridiculous value for money.0 -
What are people's thoughts on the SLX triple V's double and bash?
Should a bash guard weigh over 100g more than an outer ring? This (random) one is only 70g http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=17279
I know you need to consider that the middle ring is a bit bigger also.
Also, looking on the shimano site, with the double set up you loose the Steel and composite 32t in 'favour' of an aluminium 36t (no problems with the sizing, but aren't the steel and composite rings meant to be a lot better in terms of wear)?
Am I missing something?0 -
would the bottom bracket supplied fit the tempest though because i have a ISIS bottom bracket at the moment0
-
Yes, the BB comes with the crank. You will need to face the BB shell first though.
Duuble and bash: do you need a triple? Depends what gearing you want.
Strong bash guards can weigh a fair bit.0 -
yer i want double and bash but what does face the bb shell mean ?0
-
As the BB fits externally (and it will fit your bike), the faces of the shell need smoothing off and made parallel to each other. Needs to be done at a shop.0
-
am i better off gettin a different crank with the ISIS bottom bracket like wot i got now ?0
-
Swings and roundabouts. ISIS BBs tend to fall to bits. But will be the easiest option.
Why do you need a new one, has it worn out?0 -
its because every time the crank get to a certain point i feel them like clunk on my foot0
-
That could be the pedals, and if not that, most likely the BB. Could be a slightly loose crank.0

sorry to hijack, what bottom bracket is on my 2007 Trek 6000? Treks webby doesn't specify:

Just so I know what to look out for - if there is a bargain to be had!
cheers0 -
Could be a square taper or octalink. Does it say on the crank? What does the axle look like?0
-
No Idea!
WIll have to look a bit more closely!
Put it another way, what BB would fit, I'm assuming the one that comes with the SLX crankset, but it would need the shell faced?
Learning all the time - cheers!0 -
soo would this bottom bracket fit for sure ??0
-
and would it be able to handle 6 foot drop off's onto flat concrete ?????? coz i did that the other day0
-
The cranks wioth external BBs will fit, you have standard Bb shell.
If you want to do big drops, get a DH crank like a Saint.0 -
but on the saint the bottom bracket is 83mm, will it still fit ?0
