Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC) is a national charity that provide bikes and equipment to children and young people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

January is the time when a cyclists thoughts turn to the coming season and when many of us will be selecting our ‘big event’ for 2009. Instead of looking South and agonising over the relative merits of the Etape or the horrors of the Marmotte why not consider looking North to the Nordic charms of Vätternrundan.

Vätternrundan is a non-competitive bike ride, or to use the very pleasing Swedish term, a 'motionslopp'. Over a 300 km course in one of the most breathtaking areas of Northern Europe. Tracing the shores of the spectacular Lake Vättern in southern Sweden the ride goes through the night to take best advantage of the legendary ‘Midnight Sun’. The event is open to any rider over the age of 18 regardless of ability and last year it attracted 18,000 participants. The organisers lay claim to it being the ‘largest recreational bike ride in the world’.
