I've only managed to get it working once :x
It really struggles to pick up the GPS signal, even in really open, clear spaces with no possible interference from buildings or trees.0 -
Sports tracker is jut software. The gps signal problem is down to the phone or the gps dongle. I've got it on a new phone and it seems to work pretty well even sat in a cover in my back pocket. I have found it more useful on hikes, because it will tell you your altitude - not that accurately, but enough to let you know how you are doing for time, (and that the large "summit" in front of you is not, in fact, the summit )
But I wouldn't want the world to know where I lived, so "no" in answer to the OP.0 -

No, instead I wrote myself a web page connected to a db that I log my journeys on. It gives me monthly / annual totals and allows filtering by date, and sorting on each of the data values [date, avg speed, max speed, cadence etc] plus a downloadable CSV of the data so that I can play with it in Excel, filtered by date or all of it going back 4 years. The benefit is that if I feel like it, it can be rewritten to suit whatever I want it to do. and it's entirely free. Once you start logging stuff it becomes pointless not to carry on doing it, sadly...0 -
Yep i've been using it for a couple of years, although I rarely use the built in GPS in my N95, I use a small bluetooth GPS unit which is usually more actuate and help the phones battery last longer.
Most annoyingly it never seems to work when I doing a new route, like yesterday.
here my Nokia tracker link https://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/use ... u=itboffin and yes i've already created an SCR group http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=15038168Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Just a thought, do you have the Access Point set to none? If you don't it will freeze when it looks for the access point (timer keeps on but tracking stops).
I've not come across that problem, I use my home wifi to upload and leave it set to that all the time, i've dabbled with the real-time tracking but not really of great interest.
Has anyone else ever tried to manually upload a route to the nokia tracker site? well it doesn't work.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Very nice, that route must be fun going the other way ie down hillRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I track mine on my 6210 Navigator, works well.
ChrisInBicester, I hear what you're saying about using an independent data format, but I find the handiness of just hitting "upload" on my phone too much of a bonus to ignore I think you can download all the runs recorded on SportTracker as XML anyway, should you need to get the data out.

My SportTracker profile. You'll need to join the SCR group to see any routes.Today is a good day to ride0 -

Im just about to get a phone (maybe a nokia) Which nokia supports the Sport tracker service. Would be interested to know?
I know the nokia navigator is a bit of beast to carry around, I'm a light weight sort of bloke in what ever activity I do so less bulk the better.
Sorry for a being a novice jumping in here.
WoodyThe doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now0 -
what nokia phones can do this? i'm looking to upgrade my handset this month and this would be a great feature0
-
You can download the SportTracker application here, there is a list of compatible handsets and GPS devices.
I use a Nokia 6210 Navigator, which is anything but hefty to carry around.
Today is a good day to ride0 -
thanks for that, think i may have to investigate.......0

That phone isnt on O2. Does the GPS thingy suck the life out of the battery. The doctor said I needed to start drinking more whiskey. Also, I’m calling myself ‘the doctor’ now0

Nokia 6220 classic on Virgin £18/month 200 mins and 500 texts
I binned my old network to get this deal
The GPS hasnt given me any issues yet - I just recharge at work !0 -
The GPS sucks the battery. I don't think I could get 2x45min commutes out of a full charge.
Which reminds me, I must look in to a portable charger jobby for longer rides.Today is a good day to ride0 -
try a solar charger - something like the Freeloader (although it takes forever if you don't buy the MASSIVE booster panels)point your handlebars towards the heavens and sweat like you're in hell0
-
Im looking at this portable one for when I go walking/Camping might be little much if you carry all of it, however all you will want is the portable charger part.

My N82 will do about 4 hours using the GPS, I have a small device that takes 1 AA battery so I can top it up on route, fits in my jersey pocket fine, cost about £5 on eBay, Maplin sell something similar for £6.
My son also bought me a Powermonkey Explorer for xmas that has a lithium battery, various worldwide mains chargers, and a solar charger, which should be great when I'm touring in Italy in the spring. I have fantastic sons0 -

Booster panels to go with it ? I had the Freeloader on a camping holiday and despite glorious sunshine - and being left all day in the sun - all it could do was give me one more bar of energy on my mobile. Complete waste of effort.
Havent seen the booster panels though.0 -

Yes GPS kills battery life so use an external unit anyway the built in GPS on Nokia phones suck, If you by a Nokia get one with wifi other wise you'd better have an inclusive data package and lots of patience, esp if you take pictures on your ride and want to include them in the upload.
The N95 is very good but really and wifi enable Nokia E or N series is fine.
I did lots of work on Nokia and wifi mobile devices when I used to work for Cloud Network, I still prefer the original N95.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

girv73 wrote:@alfablue how much charge does the AA battery give you? That's the sort of cheapo solution I was thinking of.
The Powermonkey is too much of a luxury for me to have bought it (10x the price of the cheapo AA thing), but as I was lucky to get it as a pressie I have been using it. Charged up at home on the mains it seems to give at least two full charges of the phone, maybe a third. When I go to Italy I will be in B&B's rather than camping, so will have the ability to recharge it most days, plus the option of the solar panel, though I think I have read that it could take a whole day to recharge the battery fully. I don't think relying on solar alone it would keep up with demand if using the gps, but it should do just for keeping the phone charged for normal use.0 -

Is there anyway to upload off the 6220 classic without connecting to the network?
Can you do it via the cable?0 -

Uploading to nokia's site has to be via the Internet direct from the phone, so wifi works out cheapest and the websites import function is broken as is the helpdesk@ email address, doh!Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
