is it such a bad thing that this disease is given such a high media profile in that country and the spotlight put on how to deal with it, e.g treatment , support , early detection of the illness?

No doubt the the anti LA brigade will be on running this thread in a few minutes but i think LA's ego may have some benefits that are not his primary motivation

It's great if we can improve the fight against cancer. So far I'm only aware of Trek bikes and a speciial paint job, I'm not sure of their contribution to oncology.

No doubt I'll soon be labeled "a hater" merely because I pointed this out. Still I'm sure a deal with Don Catlin must be hours from signature and likewise I'm sure we'll get information on fundraising and cancer awareness tomorrow.

Cool looking bike and it's good to see that he's staying true to his promise to make the anti-cancer fight front and center in his return.

Already trashing him for what hasn't even been given time yet in the case of cancer disucssion down there. How do you know what is in the media yet? He has only just arrived...let's see in 2 weeks. The Caitlin thingy...definitely...what happened...shame about the slightly confrontational question pro cycling asked on that...I have not yet heard a squeak from Caitlin (that can be trusted) or from LA on why it hasn't happened

Bit of a lazily cynical reply Kleber - it needs people in prominent positions with media access to keep putting their hand up, poking fingers in chests, asking questions of those in power to keep awareness high, to make those at the top accountable and answer some of the concerns and questions of those without that access.

Yes it does stagehopper, that's why I'm sure Armstrong will be briefing the local media, meeting with top Aussie ministers and catching up with the local cancer medics as soon as he's finished racing.

Er, he's only high profile again cos he's started racing again. Perhaps he figured it was a less exhausting way of keeping in the public eye than dating 20 year old actresses...

You would have Lance could have afforded a decent camera, rather than using his phone, to take the pics.

I think you're missing the point of what Livestrong is as a charity. It's as much a modern lobby group as it is a straightforward "give money, stop cancer. cancer bad m'kay?" charity.

See prop 8 in Texas, for example. It's far more in the mode of Saint Bono and Bob's style of pressure group aiming at government policy and using its star-billing to get in the door of "the people with the power to make change happen" type action than in the mould of something like your average donkey sanctuary.

    And according to The Age:

"On Friday, Armstrong will be the guest of honour at a $2500-a-head dinner, at which he will be interviewed by sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney. Proceeds will go to the South Australian Cancer Council."

The question was posed exactly how I asked it, which is nice because that's my style. I'd never make much of a journalist though.

You can see it in my first question that's just how I ask questions.

Iain, you are absolutely correct to point out the lack of any legal contract between LA and Caitlin...the journalist put two of your questions to LA , shows you had valid questions. But LA is quite paranoid...e.g. see his refusal to answer a further question by another BRer cause it was "prefaced by the assumption of doping" in LAs words ... LA shut that line of questioning down so quick. But fact is...Caitlin looks to have been used for PR and when will the cycling media seek answers from LA or Caitlin?

I managed to get round to reading the interview and when presented with your question Iain, I was taken aback by Armstrong's defensiveness. He said something to the effect that when he's confronted with negative questions he doesn't like it and gets out, something I understand but if any mooted career in politics won't get far if he struggles to rebut tough questions. Similarly he knows only to well there are doubters out there and to dismiss it all as "toxic" and more, that's a shame that he doesn't want to engage people and make even skeptics warm to him.

but your not interested in his side...why waste your time on reading his interviews?...you've already trashed his Australian visit and he hasn't been there much over 24 hrs...

Where did I "trash" his Australian visit? I think you might be leaping to conclusions, so sorry if I didn't make it clear. All I said what that we've got all the news on a new paint job for a Trek bike but as a cyclingfan, I'm not getting much news on the charity side so far. Let's try not to argue over this.

I'll PM you something else too, look in your inbox soon.

It's interesting to see how it's been reported in Oz to be honest.

    http://www.theage.com.au/news/sport/tou ... 18206.html

Interested in Lance as a cyclist

    http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/s ... 23,00.html

Another one. Vague mention of "passion of the cause" but no expansion on that.

    Etc etc.

Try the local paper in Adelaide - http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/

It even has a "Have you seen Lance? Let us know." section.

He is receiving the same cover over here as any other of the global athletes like Beckham, Woods, etc. Last nights t.v media covered him arriving then his media conference about being nervous to be back racing, etc.
    There's no time for hesitating.

things have got worse on here since LA came back. to think so many cyclists are likely praying for a + test from LA in 09 keeping in mind the loss of sponsors and damage that would bring to the employment in cycling...

ps. :D Moray Gub...am confused by which estuary you are at...the Beauly Firth-Kessock Bridge-Moray Firth or at the Forth Bridge kinda way? both nice

Cant remmeber too many if any Poster on this forum saying that 1.) hoped 2.) thought that Armstrong would test positve. There has been lots of discussion as to whether he doped in his previous years racing. Im increasingly surprised at peoples attitude towards people that think LA cheated. If you say you think some other pro riders on the juice its mostly either agreed with or dimissed as unfounded. I dont think this forum has got any worse ( i actually enjoy reading and posting on this forum ) pre Lance Comeback it was DennisN (where is he anyway) telling people they couldnt accuse anyone of anything without having an intimate relaitonship with them, or the 30 odd riders getting the CERA retest. The arguments were just as fierce as the LA.
