Crud Raceguards - Seat post or Seat tube?

Leaving aside the arguments about what a crud guard does to the look of your bike, on my last bike I fitted the rear crud giard to seat post as directed regardless of some loss of height adjustment. Just got a new bike and with the different frame geometry I could fit to seat tube (below clamp but above toptube junction) instead of seat post. Looks like adequate clearance, no loss of range of seat adjustment height and no conflict with my seat pack (cos I previsouly mounted it as high up the seat tube as possible). Other than comments about them looking stupid, is there a downside I've missed? Aware that there many commnets about mudguards on forum but havent found any on this topic!

Mine is on the frame rather than the seatpost as it was on my old bike. Leaves the seatpost for the essentials such as lights and seatpack. No real problem in removal other than having to take the seatclamp off too.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I'd fit a Crud guard to my bike's seat tube - if it had one. As for looking dorky, the fashion police are hibernating this time of year and IMO a bit of black plastic is better than a huge s**t stripe up your back0
