over-shift double chainset
Hi all,
I've shifted my front derailleur (shimano 105 double 10sp) onto the big ring and inadvertently shifted the lever again. Now it won't shift back onto the small chainring and I don't know how to rectify this. Stupid, I know but any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

do you mean the release lever will not shift it back down again - ie, its stuck..???0

yip that's it in a nutshell.0

assuming there is nothing physically preventing the front mech from dropping back again, then my guess is that something inside the lever mechanism may have failed.
I have heard of plenty of front shifters failing, but its never actually happened to me, so I'm not sure what can be done...0 -
Thanks softlad,
could be LBS time!0 -
It often works if you just release the cable (undo the nut on the derailleur) and then try and change - something happens with the cable pulled to tight that stops the ratchet releasing.
Not to be a downer but it happened to me the day after I got my last bike - with the same groupset - and I needed a new shifter - something had just died inside. Was obviously under warranty and the new one has been perfect since.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -
Thanks kdog, got it sorted this morning. Pulled the cable away from the downtube a centimter or 2 to release the tension a bit and tried the shifter. Moved back ok. Moved from the small ring to the big ring and back a couple of times to be sure it was working ok. Seems to be sorted.
I won't make that mistake again in a hurry......hopefully!!! :oops:0
