Safe to leave a chain in Muc_off overningt?

Taken my chain off the bike today and gave it a clean in a bowl of Muc Off - is it safe to leave it in that overnight - or will it degrade anything on the chain?

I have a mate who manages a bike shop, he once told me that one of his mechanics left a crank in a bowl of muc-off overnight. The next day they had to call the customer to explain he'd be receiving a new crank...

Well muc off shouldn't be on metal for long periods of time

wash the mucoff with water afterwards aswell

Yep washed it off with water, then sprayed WD40 on it to dispell the water - will lube with Finish Line before using it when back on the bike.

Looks nice and clean now though

mate of mine left his chain in muc off overnight. put it on in the morning, turned the cranks to find that he now had lots of little chains.

follow the instructions on the bottle. theyre there for a very good reason.

I've left chains in degreaser for a couple of days, but they can start to rust. I imagine Muck Off is pretty agressive.

How can I test the strength of the chain now then?

It was in Muc Off for an hour? Hour and a half max

that should be ok, but you should really only leave it on for a few minutes.

the only way to test the strength of the chain is to ride it.

If you're going to leave it in anything I believe it should be white spirit.

Paraffin's the best to soak it in (or diesel), then degrease it and rinse off.

Used to do motorbike chains in diesel, they came up like new!

Take it for a destructive test at a lab and fit a new chain.............................

Or, just re-fit it and forget about it

+1 on paraffin (we call it kerosene or just kero down here) or diesel, because both are slightly oily and non-corrosive.
