Hey
Ebay have the L at like 270grams for 20.00, but merlin has the SL for 26.95.
Is it worth the extra or no?
Thanks
Oh and clee has the sram 991 for 20.00 as well.
But both KMC are lighter than the 991

i did'nt find the "L" very durable, so back to XTR the sram gets good reviews so outta those two i'd have the sram. personally i'd have an XTR, lovely chains.0

Does the XTR come with a power link?
Seems like a good idea for cleaning, Also heard that shimano links are not that great.
Thanks0 -

So prob 20.00 and thats it eh!
The sram or the KMC L not SL
Need to buy a cassette as going to chainge the whole thing over, so yes cant afford a fortune.
Just looking for the lightest and best0 -
You are looking at about 30g difference in the cheapest and most expensive (bar ti ones). I just use SRAM PC951 or 971, they perform the same, just that the 971 is a bit more corrosion proof.0
-
So is the 991 more corrosion proof than the 971?
Its just that my chain that came with my bike got rusty after like 3 rides.
Was not impressed, I think its a bog standard shimano0 -
A little bit more. The hollow pin is lighter, but weaker.0

Dont want the hollow pin, too expensive.
Just a normal chain0 -
PC951 then ;-).

Though the 991 seems to have come down a hell of a lot lately. The stronger (than hollowpin) cross step is only 15 quid here.

3g more than the 951 lol.0 -
Thats dumb isnt.
I might for for the x9l, its 270 gr. and seems to have good reviews.
People are saying the normal 991 snaps all the time and not on the links.
What something that is not going to rust, as it looks terrible0 -
Used to be you could get 3 cheapo SRAM chains for the price of a top end one. Which was a much better deal.
KMC make good chains, often seen on budget bikes too. I got one for 4 quid!0 -
Thanks for the help.
They say biking is cheaper than taking the car, but I got this problem I cant stop buying its addictive.
But then again I had nothing for my bike, not even a pump or spare tubes.
So I guess the start-up costs can be a bit high.
Im not sure If I need a new chain, but hate my rusty one, and want one that you can take off in seconds.
Cant belive shimano doesnt do this link thing, but hey they cant be the best at everything.0 -
How about cleaning and lubing your chain more often!!!!!!!
I prefer the SRAM I'm now running over the KMC I had before, neither rusted, neither have snapped and I'm not a lightweight!
Go for the 971.0
