Hi

I've now got 3 decent bikes (even the commuter is new after Xmas) & the Mrs has a half decent bike. I'm therefore thinking of getting bike insurance. Any recommendations/advice? Which companies are best in terms of service and value?

Thanks.

  • I have British Cycling cover - not sure on the limits for theft etc though, I got it more for the 3rd party... it's covered on my home insurance for theft.

If you pay most Insurance companies about half the cost of the bike, they'll insure it for you, providing its not in use at any time, or indoors, or outdoors.

That is probably not very helpful.

    Sorry (convincingly)
  • I have Sainsburys home insurance for buildings and contents. I have about 10k worth of bikes which I got insured by adding them individially as special items. It cost about 15 pounds extra a month. It covered theft and accidental damage.
I did the dafted thing and over tightened a front derailleur on a carbon fibre frame and they paid out £1000 to replace it. Beware they try to subcontract the claims process to Wheelies who were absolutley pants about customer service.

As above - chat to your insurance company and add to the policy as specified items. Do it in writing and be honest.

That way you know exactly what is covered.

  • house insurance here, nationwide up to £500 per bike. seems good when my wife's bike got nicked we or rather i got the rather lovely local bike shop to set her up a new one (main plus is it's the right size sa being wee) and the insurace just payed the bill.

i should get some dedicated 3rd party though i'll have a look i may be covered already under house/car any way some do.
