I've turned mine right up to max. If I ride with them locked out I want them to stay locked, if I want bounce I unlock them. All it does is set them point at which a hard impact overrides the lockout. Unless you ride with them locked all the time I can't see why you wouldn't want the floodgate fully on. Others may disagree.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • makes sense thanks, anyone else got any thoughts?

It depends what you want, the greater you set it the harder you need to hit it to over-ride.

I like mine about 2 turns from min, so it stays locked for most of the time, but if i hit it even remotely hard it goes soft. Basically I set mine hard enough to allow me to cycle out of the saddle without bobbing, any more than that is too much for me tbh.
  • great cheers think i know where im going with it can you adjust it just by screwing gold cap in and out ? some one i work with says i need a 3mm allen key pop cap off and its under there?

depends on the fork model, if you've got a knurled brass knob (ooooo eeeerr) then that's the floodgate, if not then there is a cap on top of the blue compression adjuster (where the brass one would be) and the floodgate is under there. The second type needs a 3mm allen key (you can use the rebound adjuster from the bottom of the forks, it pulls out!)
  • well my missus allways said i had a funny shaped knob thats confirmed it never knew it was brass though better go and polish it  . sorry got carried away will have a fiddle soon (with my floodgate that is)
