Adjusting Shimano Altus RD-CT95

Hi, easy one for you, I'd imagine.
The chain on my brand-new bike slips from the smallest (8th) sprocket to the second smallest on the rear gear, and then usually drops back down, although occasionally it stays there untill I go down through a couple of gears and back. I've tightened the adjsutment barrel on the derailleur as far as it will go, but there was only about half a turn of movement available and the chain is still jumping. Can anyone suggest what I should do next? I've been over the manual and it's no help, and I don't want to start randomly fiddling with things on my new bike.
Cheers in advance

it sounds like the cable may be a tad to tight or you may need to adjust the limit screw for the lowest position0
