Wheels - always shave weight off rotating mass first. Tyres and rims more important than hubs.Pedals and chainset may also be worth considering
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

The outside of the wheels, i.e. rims and tyres - because you have to spin them up to speed when you accelerate as well as simply moving them forwards.

    My set up is

    2008 5.2 Madone
    Bonnrager Race Lite wheels
    Bontrager Race Lite X tyres
    Shimano Ultegra SL Compact
    Look Keo Carbon Ti pedals

Really can't aford £500 for new wheels to reduce weight there, as I think that is what I would have top spend to make any spend worthwhile on the exisitg wheels?

How about lighter tyres and inner tubes?
  • £60 on a pair of Pro 3 Race and a pair of conti supersonics seems a good move to me.

Agree on the tyres - Pro Race are superb tyres.

Heavy wheels and heavy tyres.....tyres and wheels would make a hell of a difference.

Would all this weight saving include the rim tape and if so which ones???

  • think how much rim tape weighs, even if you took it off and didnt replace it you wouldn.t notice it!!

    it all adds up

    10gm rim tape/ 40gm saving on a supersonic tube / say 50gm on a pro3 or attack force

so 100gm per wheel ....how much extra in £ are paying for A 200gm less wheelset ??

    difference between say a fulcrum 5 & a fulcrum 3 ??

its the pocket money savings that add up & give best returns
