E-Type M570-E front mech? Basically keep the bottom bracket plate to attach between the BB cup and BB shell to act as a protecting plate to stop the chain scrapping down onto the paintwork if the chain comes off. Then use the braze-on adapter to fasten the bolt from the front mech. Does the E-type mech need a braze-on frame or does it just attach to the BB? I have got confused and need some help. Thanks everyone, my bike is a Cove Handjob which I am still to built.

E type needs just the BB shell to work.

not needed. and if you want to use an e type remember to use the correct bb or remove a spacer from the drive side cup if external.

but protecting paint is not what an E type mech is for.

I know, it would only be used to stop the chain sliding over the cup and then over the BB shell just incase of the chain falling off.

Is shifting any better with these mechs?

No better or worse. But designed to be used on suspension bikes where a "normal" method of clamping on the seat tube cannot be done.
