  • It`s gone but there was some stuff on singletrackworld, try bikemagic

It`s a work in progress using forest roads, farm tracks and some wide, elevated boardwalk to get over some boggy bits. Finished sometime in spring if I remember correctly.

its called the cross border trail.

I'm thinking of doing it in a few weeks as training for the C2C.

Also worth trying the keilder trail reavers website...

    http://www.kieldertrailreavers.org.uk/

given that they are the guys building it; my sources assure me it should be open for spring this year and include the longest bit of Northshore in the UK (about 1km) to get over a particularly boggy (and environmentally sensitive) bit.

It's not a 7Stanes trail, but it does link the Kielder area with the 7stanes centre at Newcastleton (they'd have to rebrand the whole thing if it became the "Eighth Stane..."!)

Surprisingly, the Trail Reavers website contains very little information about it, in fact the newsletter which you can download actually pre-dates the Opening of the Deadwater Trail.

However, from what my tame border-land pixies tell me, the trail will be about 60km long, but only 15km of that will be single track. I would think that some of the trail will make use of the old Newcastle-Glasgow railway line bed, as it runs past the inlet of the reservoir and straight through to Newcastleton. There is also a 1,5km section of 2m-wide board walk over one of the most exposed sections of bog (when you've felt the wind up there you'll realise why it has to be 2m wide!).

There is also a blue-graded trail in development which will circumnavigate the reservoir - having done MTB enduros up there in the early 90s, that means it will probably be about 40 to 50km in length; and a green-graded family trail from Keilder castle.

  • We are trying to get more folk on our forum for everything relating directly to Newcastleton forest and Mountain Biking, we will update the forum with information when we get it listing any events and where you can get more information relating to the 7stanes and other biking stuff. If we can get a lot more interest this will spread information more quickly and along with sites like this one gets a broader audience. Hope some of you can add to our site and even send a few comments about what you would want to see there.
