I've finally got around to collecting an E F Russ track frame from my dads garage. It's been there at least 25 years that I know of. It was given to him by a friend (died a long time ago) who used to ride it in the sixties I think. Apart from that I know little about it. I haven't found much in the internet, but thought someone on here might know something about the brand, when it might have been made etc.
It's 531 butted tubes forks and stays. The colour was once gold, but now rather dull. Chromed half of rear stays, lower forks and crown. Frame number LE3197, underneath this it also has stamped 61degrees64degreesD222E38. Forks are number 3197. Horizontal dropouts (110mm) Eyelets (for mudguards?) front and rear, drilling for front brake only.
I did take some pictures, but I don't know how to insert them![/img]

Would be easier if you could put a few pictures up.

Host images at imageshack and then copy and paste URL into coding:

  • Now I need to work out how to make it bigger...

E F Russ was a london builder based in Battersea if memory serves. He desigined the Russ resiliant fork which was basically a long straight fork blade with the rake right at the very end he also used rapid taper stays, don't know if he introduced those though.

All i know i'm afraid not a lot on him, though my friend is doing some research and I will let you know if he finds anything.

Some close ups of the fork crown and ends, b/b shell and lugs, stays and bridges would be useful.
  • [That didn't work, maybe this.

  • I'm getting the idea. Hopefully these will work. I took them the other day, don't have any of the BB.

actually no ones given me a bike or a frame for ages........................
  • Originally I was going to swap this frame with that on my fixed bike since it's a little bit small. However, I've realised it won't be quite as simple as I thought. The rear spacing is different and I'll need a longer chain and a seat bolt. Also the 'hidden' stem bolt in the dura ace stem has been rounded so I might have to saw it off, then I'll need a new stem and bar tape.........etc. So not sure what to do now.

But I won't be giving it away....!
