agreed 1000% with the 'don't f*ck with teh trails' one.

Main one for me is - riders going uphill should have right of way over riders going downhill.

im assuming you mean actuallt pedalling up the track and not pushing.

if you see somebody pedalling up the track and you're coming down then get out of thier way and dont make them have to stop and try to get back into thier groove on a hill, dummy.

if you're pushing a bike up a trail and you see somebody coming down get out of the f**king way you moron.

As the original post was talking about trail centres, and Afan in particular going to say that all trail centre trails I've ever been on are one-way. You should never ride against the wrong way, ever. I've had to go back up now and again to look for a bit that's fallen off, or indeed a mate that's taking too long and has fallen off, you leave your bike behind (taking on board tend to ride in big groups so I can leave it with someone) and walk back up.

Never, never, never ride against the flow of traffic you're askling for a face full of angry rider.

You want to try Gisburn Forest pal - shared use and two-way traffic, even on the single track bits  !

my view on letting faster riders past:

tough mate, you should have got up earlier then you would already be past me, gob off some more and instead of battering you, i'll batter your mate.

    How friendly

Not had that response yet, but good job I ride with a load of ex-squaddies, don't feel safe without them now

I'm sure it'd be easier to just let people through in a safe place, or tell them to hang fire for a mo rather than getting all worked up. That way everyone can carry on and have a nice day, averting murder on the trail! how sweet

dont worry stevieboy, twas merely a joke, ive never even been in a fight so the last thing i would really do is start one. i spend most of my time in trail centres stood to one side letting folk enjoy themselves instead of making them follow behind me listening to my brakes drag!!

I think the slower rider should give way to the faster one. Two reasons: the faster rider is more likely to not be in control, and him moving at the last second is more difficult. And we climb for the fun of the downs - don't spoil it for them ;-)

Not always true, I quite like a bit of technical uphill, always a feeling of achievement if you get to the top without dabbing. Having to automatically give way to someone coming down and lose my line would actually piss me off quite a lot. Thing is to take each situation as it comes, sometimes it's just prudent to get out of the way (when someone's out of control it's better to remain in one piece than stand on your principles) other times it's as easy or easier for the descending rider to take a different line.

If you're out on normal rights of way no one has the right to come screaming downhill at the expense of other users safety or pleasure. If you want a completely unhindered downhill run you need to use a dedicated trail.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • if you're pushing a bike up a trail

    does not compute..

if one of your riding buddies stacks it, always leave just enough time to make sure they haven't hurt themselves before laughing. Laughing prematurely and then having a trip to a hospital is not cool.

I've done that. Mate came off...I run over laughing away with a camera in my hand. He turns over and his knee was hanging open.

Quick trip to Bury St Eds hospital and 3 weeks off and all was well.
