Mmm Beeb says Minus 2, Metcheck says -5 (feels like -10) I find metcheck to be more accurate. Did chose tonight to commute to the GF's (10 miles rather than 3!)

Heard the guy on the beeb say yesterday that it it's -10 on the ground itself then salt stops working...

I really enjoyed my ride home tonight, but didn't really enjoyt he ride in this morning, I was too knacked and achy to ride hard enough to warm up.

It's -7 right now here in Marlborough it's a shame it's so icy I'd love to get out on the bike right now.

All was fine, then it just seemed to get chilly through Petersham. Certainly makes you pedal harder. I'm certainly drinking just as much during the ride with the sweat I'm working up.

  • I hope you didn't do it. It was bloody evil. So cold that my hands and feet hurt so much I cried. Yep, you can go ahead and say MTFU but sod that for a game of soldiers. I'm on the train tomorrow.

PS. I did have two pairs of socks AND overshoes. And two pairs of gloves. So don't give me that "there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing" rubbish.

I used my 'lobster' motorbike gloves today - they were too warm :-)

I rode from SW Londres to St. Pancreas and didn't find it too bad on the way there early PM. Was noticably more interesting on the way back at 7pm. Hands still too warm tho :)

I was up round Bedford way and the ice/snow on the ground there was nasty - ended up walking the bike rather than ride on it. yeek.

    Interesting point:
I worked noticably harder on these 2 rides compared to the same rides last week - HRM data really quite interesting.

Yep it was a bit parky.
I seem to be countering it by riding faster on the straights to keep my core temperature up.

Now, I need to find some glasses that don't mist up at RL stops :(

BBC weather guy just cheerfully said there may be snow during tomorrow morning's commute

Yep, me too. My last 2 homeward commutes have been the fastest I've been since the end of summer and that's with taking any corners very carefully

It was a bit parky last night, but London wasn't too bad. When you get out into the middle of nowhere, now that's a diffenrent matter, at least 2-3 degrees colder  My water bottle had turned to a block of ice by the time I got home.

LL - ironically, you're problem might be that you're restricting the circulation to your hands and feet.

For your feet, try warm socks, then shoes, then cheapy sports socks over your shoes (you'll have to cut a hole for the cleats), then your overshoes. The socks over the shoes will limit the wind chill to the feet, but they won't be tight around your feet.

For your hands, buy one pair of proper winter gloves - Altura do some.

Cheers ITB. I've seen that tip before and tried it. It worked to a certain extent so I'll do it a bit more often from now on

There is some great sprays / cloths from Kleeneze that do a superb job of stopping your glasses misting up. I have used them for years and they always worked for me.

Recently I bought one of their magic cloths for my shaving mirror, always used to drive me potty, now after one application it has been mist free for months!!!

Cheers. My other problem though is that I sweat like a man on the run in the forests of Borneo. So sweat tends to drip onto the lenses. Do you know if this reduces the effect of the spray?

Wear a little cap mate! Cap will soak up sweat and if it gets saturated then it'll drip off the peak, missing your glasses entirely. They have their uses these little caps.

In this really cold weather wear the glasses over the top of you beanie or other such hat it lets the air flow a tiny bit better which makes the difference for me between seeing the hill as I climb or not wearing glasses whilst climbing.

    Isn't that burnt orange?

no cycling for me today...gutted, round to a friends tonight as they're cooking for us. I would have cycled but leaving the missus alone at night to travel back from finsbury park is harsh and I didn't have time to get home first then come out... damn.

as a result of not cycling in I lost the will to get out of bed
