UK 3-4day cycle routes

This July I'm departing for a 2-year bike tour through Africa.
I would like to do a few trial weekends fully loaded in the UK and am after some suggestions/advice of routes.
Would be looking at 35-50miles per day - nothing too strenuous, so I have time to see/do other things.
I live near Slough/High Wycombe so I'd need to fit in travel to/from destination in the time available. I'm thinking long weekends here.

So far I've come up with:
1. the Ridgeway (cycled it before)
2. Devon coast-to-coast (bit too far to get to?)
3. Peddars Way/North Norfolk Coast
4. South Downs Way (too much off-road?)
5. Somewhere through Wales must be a good possiblity too

Any other ideas/advice?

Thanks, Helen

    You're braver than me Helen.

Here's a link to the sustrans site which has all the routes you'll probably need for the warm up. I can't say I know any of the routes in the south but I'm sure there's something for you and a couple just about pass your door.

I checked out your African route and think you're right to detour around Liberia. I'm working off the coast there and travelled through Monrovia. If the main road from the airport was anything to go by you're bike and you wouldn't last long there. Not much traffic but they didn't like moving out of each other's way.

Good luck, and enjoy the freedom.
