Ride fuel
I had a hunt on the forum and couldn't find the answer so I'll ask the question. Feel free to point me to a previous post if I've just been a numpty on the search.
I'm training longer now as I'm switching from shorter TTs to sportives. Usually I'm not out long enough to worry too much - up to 2 1/2 hours - about fuel. I tend to have some ready brek before I go and then some orange squash while I'm out. I don't drink as much as I should though.
However, now I'm stepping up the distance, I need to fuel and drink properly. So any advice would be greatly appreciated for both eating, pre-ride and during and for drink.
Thanks

Eat what you like (chocolate, cereals, honey, bananas, sandwiches, they all do) and stay away from pork scratchings and crispsleft the forum March 20230

Have a look at this site:

There's a lot of stuff on there about nutrition and training...0 -
Good tip Thooms
What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!0 -
Thanks for that link Thooms- excellent. I've just entered the Dartmoor Classic which will be my first century, and first sportive. (Doing Alpe d'Huez in August too - going to be a good year )Why not? My bikes.

If you're serious about it, I highly recommend "The Complete book of Sports Nutrition" by Anita Bean.
Also, have a search on the training forum, the topic comes up frequently on there."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

Ditto!
It'll be my first century/sportive also, looking forward to it, but kind of dreading it at the same time...
See you there !
No Alpe d'Huez though - which is probably for the best in my case.0 -
Great stuff. Thanks Thooms for the link.
Good luck to both you and pbracing as well for the Dartmoor classic. The Dragon will be my first but I'm planning to do a century twice beforehand in training rides as well.
I'll have another hunt on training but couldn't find anything last time I looked.0 -
Try searching for "drink" - lots of stuff comes up for recovery, which should hopefully answer your question. From what you say, I would think what you're eating / drinking currently should be ok for your needs pre/during the ride. MIght want to think about timing of your eating though."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."
