I have a pay as you go phone that I might use in Spain next week. Is there a cheaper way to use it abroad or do I have to pay expensive roaming charges etc?

Depends who you're trying to call. If it's other people in Spain, then it may well be worth getting a local sim card, topping up 10 Euros and just using that. This does require that your phone is unlocked, of course. If you're calling back to the UK, this still might be cheaper, but you'd have to check the calling rates for your network and the Spanish networks.

    agree with whyamihere.

I have sim cards for france, spain and switzerland..all with a few euro each on them. swap them in and its much cheaper than using your uk sim.

If you do use your UK sim, remember to turn off push email. I (well....my work) got a massive bill last time!
