Is the Marin Nail Trail the one?

I've got £1000 to spend on 'cycle to work' and have whittled the list down to one. For me the Nail Trail was the most confortable ride out of all the brands that I tried around that price. The geometry is great for my lanky build and it just felt good. Someone I spoke to said go for the frame you like as you can always upgrade other bits and pieces. I gues thats right? The spec looks pretty good to me anyway.
My problem is that I can't find any reviews to see what people think out side of the bike shop. Any ideas or opinions?

If the geometry feels right, then I'd say you've found the bike for you. You can't really go wrong with a Marin, and as you say, you can upgrade any parts you don't like later on. You can't (massively) change the geometry without swapping the frame. (Obviously bar and stem swaps can make a difference)
Plus it looks 8) in that orange too!Boardman Road Comp '08

I have ridden an older Nail Trail and more recently a Palisades. The component spec isn`t always the best on the sub £1k models but the frames are very nice, and the ones I have ridden have had a very nice ride feel.2006 Giant XTC

You have to goto the £750 one at least to get better spec parts, below that is quite pitiful in that aspect of the marin range imo but that, the nail trail & upwards look quite good on paper. Like the look of that one myself.Start Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009

I managed to get a new frame off ebay and have built it up myself moving bits from the old bike and new drivetrain etc.
Ive not got Race Face carbon finishing kit on it, XT drive train and The ones brakes now.
Its lightweight and the standard components are good. Replace them as they break/wear out.0 -
I've had a really good look at one today and until you see it in the flesh you can't appreciate just how gorgeous it is. It really does stand out. It's definitely in my top 3 so farStart Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009
