She's now 18 and won't ride a bike, whereas I'm still pedalling!!!!
He should have had a video camera too, good clip for You've being framed that would be!0 -
Apart from a couple of erroneous 90 mph ones. It had to be erroneous as we were riding as a group and nobody else hit that speed.I have hit 38.2 miles an hour coming down Bragger's Hill towards Burley, verified by my other half clocking 39 as she overtook me and on the L2B last year at the end my max showed 42 but I can not remember going that fast at any point. It may have been coming down turners as we were on our brakes all the way down from Ditchling. We were going passed shortly after that woman came off giving herself a nasty head injury.0

60mph, twiceFacts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

46 mph going down into Cromer, but I had to throw out the anchors as I had forgot about a roundabout at the bottom of the hill. Not enough big hills around here to get a serious speed up. When I lived in Eastbourne I overtook a car coming down the hill into Old Town, it was before bike computers so I had no idea how fast I was going but the driver told me he was doing 50 when I came past.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Years ago in a race a team car told me I was doing 63 but it was on a heavy bike in those days
Last year O hit 49mph on two hills in Pinarello Gran Fondo, %) on the dragon and similar to another poster on here, just over 60 on two poins of the decent on the other side of the Galibier during the Marmotte, that was a very long, fast decent with straight parts.
All of these though are dependent on gradient, weather, wind etc.
A couple of weeks ago training I was lucky enough to train with a couple of young guns on the track and was second in line sprint training and hit the magic height of 40mph at some point in a 100 flying sprint. I was not fast enough to hold his wheel or I would have gone faster
If I could only do that on my own and keep it up for 200m I would be UK champ for my age0 -
I think i may have hit 50mph again coming down a hill in Wales - it was dead straight all the way down, and all the way down it kept getting steeper and steeper - it was like going over a cliff every time it steepened. Halfway down i looked down at my speedo and it was showing 0mph - it cut out several times that day - and seeing that it wasn't just a glance, it was a double take. I checked my max speed at the bottom and it was 45mph, but i recall doing that speed early on the descent and i'm sure i got going much faster.
It was a ridiculous idea to look at my speedo on the way down though - i had my shades on (bright summer day) but the road kept plunging into darkness under tree cover, so visibility wasn't great, and right at the bottom was a sharp right bend. I still curse myself for it.0 -

You must have had balls to take over a car!!, I'd never dare do it, only sit behind it due to the fact some drivers might put the foot down or might be abit erratic with the speed going up and down.0 -
24mph on the flat, but then ive only been riding a few weeksCycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

63mph on long straight sections at the top of Mt Ventoux, descending towards Malaucene. Bit oi tailwind also, but did not need to brake for a long long section.
It's only afterwards that you think, hmmm what if my tyre blew. Especially with no helmet, though I suppose if you come off at that speed it's going to be grim with or without it.
In the UK it's 55mph, again with a taily on a long straight road near Otterburn in Northumberland.0 -
I hit 51 last October, not sure what the hill's called - coming down off Axe Edge towards Leek on the A53.
It felt like I was doing about 70, so I was almost disappointed. Must try harder next time.0 -
I've managed 64mph, a few years ago now. My commute involved Slack hill near Matlock - at max 1:7/1:8 - straight, wide and good surface. On a still day, pedalling flat out at the top then getting into tuck I could get into the 50's. With a tail wind mid-50's was possible. On a good day I got into the habit of lurking near the brow for potential tow cars. If I got the timing right they slowly passed me on the hill at around 45-50mph, I could then tuck in behind their outside corner. Some accelerated away, others gradually accelerated taking me with them and sat at around 60mph for me. A few looked worried and didn't know what to do - time to drop back.
It all felt very safe. Much scarier was the same hill at night doing 40+mph with an old style ever-ready front light!
I'm now thinking I should go and have another go, haven't been down it for ages and it's only a few miles away.......0 -

or 68.4 mphconstantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly0 -
50mph on the Derbyshire side of Holme Moss. Probably would have gone faster, but I chickened out at that speed. On my old Raleigh Criterium 12 which had the worst brakes I've ever used, it was very scary indeed.0

I done 46 mph before losing me bottle and just hanging on like grim death.0

180 on my R1- yeah, I know

I've not descended that one yet but i've climbed it twice, bit of a b*stard so i imagine it's good the other way!
The 20% hairpins down to Llanarmon are fun though0 -
49.6 mph near Watlington on the current bike. Not sure how fast I have been on older bikes but did clock 42mph off road once down a gravel track.
On skis just over 70mph, it took a little while to slow down.Short hairy legged roadie FCN 4 or 5 in my baggies.

I've never cycled from Buxton to Bakewell, but I was overtaken on the dual carrigeway by a cyclist when I was doing 50+ in a car going down the hill....0 -
48 mph on road out of Dalby forest on Giant terrago mtn. bike ( going in completely the wrong direction, looking for car park.) Had to walk most of the way back up!' From the sharks in the penthouse,

As you're going to be in the area, try the descent from Les Deux Alpes too. Awesome! 8)We are all full of weakness and errors; let us mutually pardon each other our follies - it is the first law of nature.

I hit 49.7mph decending on the road the other side of the Cat & fiddle towards Congleton, had a good back wind and a transit van trying to overtake lol.
Max speed ever was 165mph on my old GSXR750 at 4am, was late for work0 -

46 mph down goat fell on arran, watch out for the wee brig 3/4 the way down and its a wee bit gravelly in places.0

60 in a group coming into Betsw-y-coed. 55 plus on Woodhead (sheffield side) a few times and also in the Isle of Mann.
Regularly do 40 on a local road every time I ride it - the limit's 40, so the cars generally get in the way......0 -

Aye it's a bit nasty. If going that way round we usually turn right for Maeshafn which has it's own interestingly steep descent. The trees lie about the wind...
