Internet trolls = cowards

I have yet to meet anyone who is willing to say the things they say online face to face with another human being. I mean we all know what would happen - you'd get a thrashing.
I suspect some of the people I've encountered in the past week are quite cowardly in that they need to say how they would run over a cyclist through anonynimity (sp?). We already have a system in this country where by if you slag off a religeon, or a race, or sexuality you can feel the force of the law. I wonder how long it will be before the authorities start to think "..hold on, this person is wilfully encouraging violence against another person.."
I'm not a violent person, but I suspect that given my size, strength and fitness that if anyone did "challenge" me face to face this would dissuade them. Its happened in the past - someone has given aggro and then realised how big I am and then bottled it (thankfully ).
Perhaps we should change the law in this land so that if anyone tries to sully your name or leave threats or abuse you can execute trial by battle, lol! Like they did in the middle ages.
Sorry, felt I needed to get that off me chest.

It's not only on fora....how about the average human being in a wheeled metal box weighing a couple of tons?
.............. behaviour and language changes when insulated by metal and glass

True, but I see more of it online. I guess they feel really protected like that.
To give an example I know a fair few musos who upload to youtube and other video sharing sites. They wouldnt go to the gig and stand there and shout "Oi! Thats not metal you w***er!!" The bass player would jump into the crowd and go for them.0 -
i know where you are coming from
I used to post on a popular fans website for my footie team, but just got fed up with the abuse i would get just because of the town i come from. you would meet these spineless idiots in the pub or ground before kick off and they would completley back down in front of you.
Alot more websites are getting in to trouble these days for publishing peoples stupid cowardly comments.0 -

... and quite rightly so!
However it is is more to do with historic rivalries between the two cities - it also (allegedly) gave birth to the term "scum" as a derogatory term - there is very deep mistrust beteeen the two.
Portsmouth and Southampton were both important docks. The "owners" were trying to cut wages and increase productivity. As a result there was an agreement to strike, thus closing both ports in an effort to combat these moves and improve conditions and pay for the workers.
However, the Southampton port workers formed the South Coast Union of Merchantmen (SCUM) - there are other variations) and not only broke the strike, but also bid for Portsmouth's contracts thus causing redundancy and hardship. He that buys land buys many stones.
He that buys flesh buys many bones.
He that buys eggs buys many shells,
But he that buys good beer buys nothing else.

Was about 90 years ago, iirc. Not that I'm that old Saints fans get called "Scummers" if in team shirt and seen by Pompey fans... its mostly footie related thesedays, all brought back up by a certain club manager that defected, 3 times to be precise
I'm not into footie though. More of a boxing fan, and ofcourse a bit of Le Tour.0 -

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty manager!
Sorry. Couldn't resist that one.
Oh, and just for the record, although I live in Hants have no allegiance to either Saints or Pompey, being Wolverhampton born & bred. Currently enjoying being top of the Championship table whilst it lasts (crosses fingers)!

Er, whats so funny? Its all trooooo 8) ! Yes, I will admit that I did think at the time that Hoddle was the Messiah, Jol too for that matter. In fact the only one that wasnt the Messiah was "the man in the raincoat". I still cant even breath or type his name in  .
I OBVIOUSLY get the reference David but as far as 'arry being a naughty boy, well, nothing has stuck to him yet0 -

Must admit I hadn't even thought of Redknapp's run-in with the Old Bill from a few months back when I posted the follow-up; I just couldn't resist the unavoidable Python reference!
There was a time a while back when Dad and I though Hoddle also might deliver the goods when he took over at Molineux. Oh dear.
