Try googling the frame number. Can't see it clearly enough in the pics myself. Try cleaning it up then rubbing a dirty finger across the numerals to make them stand out more.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

It's a bike.
What do I win?0 -
There is a "V" bolt on the handle bar expander bolt.So if Viking ever used lettered bolts it could be one of theirs.Has the ever been a head badge fitted? The Chater lea components would suggest a quaitly bikebagpuss0

The expander bolt doesn't look original, since it's a Claud Butler stem. Could be a CB then, and the Chater Lea bits look right for that. Most likely model a World Championship Sprint, although I'm not sure if they ever used Nervex lugs on those.0

The stem is a GB .see here for info.

Ah so it is. My mistake.
However we could be wide of the mark looking at the components. It's got to be fifty years old at least, I can't keep a bike for a year without changing bits. It does look like it's been repainted at some point, so what are the odds of the components being original?
So we're left with identifying the frame. The Nervex lugs don't really help, and I can't see much else of the frame from the pictures that would help identify it. That frame number looks pretty long, I don't recall owning anything with a number that long so that could help. Anybody recognize the frame number format?0 -
The number I think you are refering to is the nervex Regd design number.0

claud butler stem? that's one of the weirder guesses i've seen. GB stems were pretty much de riguer at the time.
and i'd suggest that the mix of components on this type of frame looks pretty darn contemporary; the GB/CL mix is typical of holdsworth and many other framebuilders of the 50s and 60s. i understand the chop and change mentality of these days, but the bottom line is, if your bike had chater-lea, or if it had campag nuovo record, it's unlikely you'd change it.
it has slotted ends, which might narrow things down a little.0 -

Indeed, but even then people liked to upgrade, so you can't assume it came with CL to start with. It may even be a custom build, either built up by a builder/shop or by the original owner who bought just the frameset.
I used to own a '54 Claud Butler Road Track with a CL chainset. AFAIK that wasn't a catalogue option (although I've never seen the catalogue).h Hopefully the frames would be different enough that nobody would think it was an Olympic or World Championship Sprint, but it could happen if people paid too much attention to the parts and not enough to the frame.0 -

Some builders also used to stamp the number on the steerer, where it usually survives better. However, that number on it's own isn't conclusive, since it may not be the original fork. However if you have a partly obscured number on the frame and the readable bit matches the number on the fork then that would do it.0
