I need a bit of advice for using Skype.
I've got the program and everything but I want to know how much it costs to ring a mobile in a foreign country.
I will be living in France for the next four months, and have a French phone mobile phone number. How much would it cost to ring me from England on Skype?

here's the answer: http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/prices/callrates/
13.2p per minute including VAT. Landline is substantially cheaper...0 -
Yeah but I'm not there long enough to get a landline installed, that's the annoying thing.
Cheers for the link though0 -
If your mobile is a smartphone, then see if you can get skype for it. "Fring" for the iphone.
Then it's skype to skype which is free.
note: iphone uses wifi connection so will only work when on wifi.
Another way is that you could get a skypein number for the UK. So people in the UK ring that number (so it costs them local UK rate) and foward it where you like. But this is a paid option.0 -
I'd really recommend a UK SkypeIn number as Edward describes. You pay a flat charge for 3 months or a year, but it's not very much and it is really useful having a UK number. Apart from making it easy for friends and relatives to phone you, it simplifies dealing with banks and other organisations in the UK if you can give them a UK phone number. It has voicemail too.0

How do I get this SkypeIn number? 'Cos that sounds as if it would be perfect for me for three months.
My main problem is that I have unlimited calls to the UK between 9.30pm and midnight. At other times it's a flat rate of 25 cents a minute, but it costs my family to receive. So if I have this SkpyeIn number, does it cost them the same as it would to ring the UK?
I forgot to mention before that I don't have internet acess in France, that's why I can't use normal skype. Does that make any difference?
Thanks for the advice so far though, it's really helping me understand.0 -
I only use Skype on my PC (with internet access), so am not the person to ask about mobiles, but from what Edward was saying, there will be a way to route your SkypeIn number to your mobile (through Skype) as long as you have a smartphone at least. If you can get skype on your mobile you will be able to get SkypeIn, and yes, the number works exactly like a UK number for anyone phoning it from the UK, you can even choose an area code that suits best. So I have an Edinburgh SkypeIn number with an Edinburgh area code, and anyone can phone it (from any phone) just as if it was an ordinary Edinburgh number. I can receive these calls anywhere I have internet access.
You can find out how to get the SkypeIn number from the Skype website (maybe best to borrow someone's internet connection for this rather than trying to do it through your mobile). Can't remember exactly how much the yearly charges are, but it's not much.0
