First good spill

Had a good un yesterday. Had a bash at a downhill course, feeling pretty confident and came across a sudden 4ft drop off (not attempted something like this yet). Was going far to fast to stop so took it as best I could, landed, but due to my poor position bounced off the bike over the bars! landed pretty heavily on my knee and shoulder and gave the ground a good headbutt to be saved by my helmet. Got up and rode a trail which was more serene!
Stiff as a board today but feel good about my escape!
If I hadn't sh1t my pants as I saw the drop I'd have made it. just froze and went stiff on the bike and hence was off balance. Wish I'd ridden it and squatted low on the bike and let the suspension do its thing.... You live and learn!
Want to see if I have the balls to give it another go.....

Glad ur ok mate, could've been alot worse atleast ur helmet did its thing
I think an unexpected 4 ft drop off would scare me and prob alot of other peeps on here if they're honest, atleast u know how to ride one better now which can only be a good thing.
Onwards and upwards from here on!!!!0 -
its best to get a good crash under your belt, cos then you know you've had one, what not to do and that you're not gee atherton

Glad you're OK, I've yet to have a bad crash or fast fall (had loads of SPD moments at low speeds or whilst stationary  ) but my 2 mates I ride Thetford with have both had free rides out of Thetford in an ambulance! So it must be my time soon!
Did your helmet take quite a hit? It could be damaged, and not do it's job properly next time. Might be worth replacing if it took a hit.
....And pilsburypie, was your avatar image always that pic, or is that a new one!?Boardman Road Comp '08

nothing like the feeling you get when you wake up the day after a good off!
had one a month or so back, concentrating so hard on not hitting the hedge! you know how the rest goes! anywas, woke up the next morning and felt like i broke my nech hahaha!
the good thing is that it does teach you how to fall off properly though!Timmo.

Crashes come with the riding. Learning to bail off and roll away can be helpful.
You don't want to just land like a sack of sh!t on the floor but gracefully parachute roll away and land on your feet again.0 -

i was aim,ing for that theory on my last one but unfortunately the massive bramble bush along the bank i hit put a stop to that! hahaha! instead it was more a headstand into them lmao!Timmo.

That was my avatar before! Probably jinxed myself!!
Usually I would take the course a bit slower to start, but was brimming with confidence after a much easier downhill that was classed black. This one was red so felt like I should glide down..... which I did really.... on my ar5e!
Bike was fine, that was my main concern even when I was mid air! Plus I had my new Christmas lightweight windproof jacket that amazingly survived un-ripped..... that would have p1ssed me off. I fix for free, my gear doesn't without cost!
Cheers for the sentiments peeps - feel a little embarrassed with all the sympathy, just wanted to share my strange joy from a first proper crash..... I always wondered if I was riding as hard as I could. It's good to push the limits :P0
