If She's a Girly Girl...
If i tried getting my GF into Mtb's i'd get her a Summer bike.
However if your Mrs already enjoys Mtbing i'd take her to the Lbs and get her to try some out.. There was a thread in the womens section HERE and it sounds like most of the regular female riders find the "female geometry" a bit of a fad...

My Gf's idea of mountain biking doesn't involve:- mud, hills, sweat, effort.... i don't think i'll get her into it
